Inspired by my experience being chronically ill, and the ways our life experiences are constantly shaping our perspectives. Window is easily the most personal work I have created. This is my first mixed-media piece, and I came to the idea in March of 2024. I’ve held onto it, waiting until i had the health to bring it to life. Window creates a rather frustrating experience, as a beautiful image lays just on the other side of these blinds..If only you could open them.
The inspiration was drawn from a time where I would lay in bed with chronic pain and fatigue, longing for a past version of myself. I’d look to the window where the blinds were shut by my bed, and see a pink and orange glimmering glow that seemed to be a beautiful Arizona sunset, only to turn over without ever opening to blinds to enjoy it. The image behind the blinds is a photo taken in 2020, when i hiked 13,000 ft to the most beautiful view i’ve ever seen. A version of me that I miss the most.
